The 6 Perfections or Paramitas of Zen-6 Keys to success & happiness in business, family life, and artistic pursuits
The 6 Perfections or Paramitas of Zen 6 Keys to success & happiness in business, family life, and artistic pursuits The Six Paramitas or Perfections of Zen or Buddhism are the practices of: Generosity, Ethics, Patience, Heroic Action, Meditation, and Wisdom. To make an effort to understand and apply these virtues in our life is not just a pursuit for perfecting our spiritual practice. These virtues are the key to perfection and success in our lives and in every facet of our lives, be it family life, business, relationships, and artistic pursuits. First and foremost, the 6 perfections give us strength and clarity in our inner life. For example, when dealing with a feeling of suffering, depression or anger, one starts by looking at the mental state that produces this feeling and tries to apply generosity, honesty, patience, and an upright stance toward our own mind. It sounds strange in the beginning. When I feel angry at someone else for something that I think they did wrong, am I to extend generosity towards myself for feeling that way? Precisely so! And when I manage to give this kind of space and compassion, this kind of generosity to myself for feeling this way, then a new self arises, with a new breath and outlook at the world. New freedom from the tyranny of my emotions arises! This is the way of the spiritual Hero, the Bodhisattva, in this world. The wonderful thing is that we can all apply these Perfections in our lives, and thus we can experience the joy, freedom, and inner strength that arise from this practice.

WHAT KIND OF A YOGA TEACHER ARE YOU?
My students and I often engage in conversation and wonder about the kind of behavior or stance a yoga teacher should display. This morning in meditation the question and a clear answer came up again in the words of the great Zen master, Suzuki Roshi. He said, “just to be yourself is enough.” I asked myself: What does it mean to be yourself? And are you being yourself right now? I think to be ourselves is to try to do our very best in each situation, while remaining true to our heart’ s intention. We may make mistakes; we may not always be skillful or succesful in our work, but what is important in taking the seat of a teacher, is the process of looking carefully at our motives and examining our stance.

Η κλεμμένη τσάντα και το Φως
Έκλεψαν την τσάντα μου Σάββατο βράδυ. Γιατί έτρεξα πίσω από τον νεαρό κλέφτη; Αυθόρμητα, γιατί κάτι έπρεπε να κάνω. Τι συνέβη εσωτερικά όσο έτρεχα στην Πλάκα, Μοναστηράκι, Ερμού ψάχνοντας κάποιον που είχε γίνει άφαντος;
